Elegantly Unfinished_ Results

The Final Forms

are derived from commonly used proportional systems: the Golden Section, the Rule of Thirds, and 2:1. The final direction was to create a series of seemingly unfinished vessels, all created utilizing a different technology to work within a turned form language.

The Golden Section bowl is made from hand sawn and turned White Ash. Ash is quickly nearing extinction in the Ohio region due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Because of this imminent doom, I try to use it whenever possible.

The 2:1 Cup is turned from solid Acrylic rod on a CNC Lathe. It was created in partnership with Die Craft Machining and Engineering in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Rule of Thirds Vase is slip cast Porcelain from a hand turned plaster positive. I traveled with this positive in my carry-on bag to Jingdezhen, China, where I was able to work local artisans and masters to create it.

While in Jingdezhen, I was also able to work with the incredibly talented Snow Yu, Taylor Carter, Katie Parker and Huang Fei. The results of these collaborations can be seen by clicking on the image below.
